Happy New Year! I hope you had an enjoyable Christ-mas Season and were able to take some time off to relax. We all seem to come back from the holidays busier than when we left, and this year is no exception.Les Sims

FRSA’s Roofing Day in Tallahassee is taking place on January 16-17, where a small group of members will visit the Capital, reaching out to various Senators and Representatives regarding issues that are important to us and the industry. Last year was the first time we held the event and we were able to meet with many legislators.

In the next few weeks, you’ll be receiving information on FRSA’s Convention and Expo taking place June 5-7 at Gaylord Palms Resort. The Expo has been sold out since the fall and the Convention and Ladies’ Committees have finalized plans for the event. Please note that FRSA controls the hotel room block and has not opened it yet. So, ignore those spam calls and emails from other sources you’ll receive telling you the block is open or almost sold out. All emails for the event come from FRSA staff.

As I mentioned in my first column, the Charity of Choice this year is FRSA’s Educational & Research Foundation scholarships. My goal is to award $50,000 in scholarships to college or trade school-bound students. Applications are available on the FRSA website under the Foundation section and the deadline for applications is March 15, 2024. If you have family members, employees or family members of your employees who are attending school, be sure they download the application and submit documentation by the deadline. If you’re interested in supporting the Charity of Choice, contact John Hellein, Foundation Director at john@floridaroof.com for more information. There are opportunities to sponsor named scholarships for a business or individual.

The beginning of the year seems like a great time to remind FRSA members of some of their benefits. Staff sends out a lot of information – most of it through email communications called “Roof Flash” – a bi-monthly newsletter sent through Mailchimp. If you aren’t receiving emails, please reach out to Kelly Sealander, Membership Director, at kelly@floridaroof.com. You may have inadvertently removed yourself from the list.

In addition to important industry information, member benefits include:

  • Workers’ Comp insurance through the SIF (who just distributed another $1.5 million in dividends to members)
  • Codes and technical support
  • Great Credit Union loan and CD rates
  • Job Board for posting open positions
  • Items for Sale section on FRSA’s website
  • Access to over 1,000 documents on building codes, OSHA, Toolbox Talks, legal and HR documents in the “Members Login” section of the websiteDiscounts on advertising, seminars and Convention & Expo
  • Free and discounted HR Services through Seay Management

Feel like you’re missing out on this information? If you’re not a member (and you should be), call FRSA offices at 800-767-3772 ext. 142 and join today. FRSA was established to work for the Florida roofing industry and no one does it better than we do.
