The Florida Roofing, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors Association's Educational and Research Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
Founded in 1992, the goal of the Foundation is to educate the work force, management and owners of construction businesses, as well as architects and building officials.
FRSA Endowment Program
FRSA's financial commitment to the future of the roofing industry in Florida.
Continuing Education Requirements
The State of Florida has mandated that every licensed contractor earn 14 hours of continuing education credit during a two-year license cycle. August 31 - even years is the deadline for certified contractors (CCC). August 31 - odd years is the deadline for registered contractors (RC). Six of the 14 hours are mandatory: 1.0 hour workplace safety training (WPS), 1.0 hour of workers' compensation (WC), 1.0 hour of business practice training (BSP), 1.0 of advanced code (ADV), 1.0 hour in laws & rules (L&R) and 1.0 hour in wind mitigation (WMM). Hours cannot be carried over into the next two-year cycle. Inactive license holders must also acquire continuing education credits in order to activate their license. Visit DBPR's web-page www.myfloridalicense.com for additional information. See calendar for upcoming seminars and dates.
Education Programs
Since the state-mandated continuing education licensing requirements in 1993, the Foundation has lead the way in providing state approved continuing education programs for roofing and sheet metal contractors.
The FRSA Foundation Trustees consider education to be a priority. Each year the Foundation Trustees decide which topics will be of interest to roofing and sheet metal contractors throughout the state.

Scholarship Program
Since the inception of the Foundation, FRSA has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to deserving college students. Thanks to your support, the number of scholarships and their value have substantially increased over the years. All applications are reviewed by a scholarship committee, which is made up of Foundation Trustees. The applicant criteria is based on both academic and personal achievements with priority given to those pursuing construction-related careers. Call Barbara Ferencak for an application. All applications must be postmarked by March 26, 2010. Click here for a scholarship application.
Silent Auction
Many of the Foundation's activities - including the Scholarship Program - are funded by the proceeds generated by the Silent Auction. The auction consists of a variety of donated gifts and services, which are displayed during FRSA's Annual Convention and Trade Show. In 2009, the event raised over $22,000. Thank you to all who donated and bid.
The next Silent Auction will be held during the FRSA's 88th Annual Convention & Florida Roofing & Sheet Metal Expo, June 16-19, 2010, at the Rosen Shingle Creek & Convention Center, Orlando, FL. Participants interested in donating should contact Barbara Ferencak at 407-671-3772, Ext. 123; E-mail: barbf@floridaroof.com

Educational Foundation Lifetime Memberships
The Foundation depends on the generosity of the industries it represents. With your support, the Foundation will continue to offer technical seminars that improve the contractors' relationships with Building Officials and Architects, who also seek educational opportunities. Educational seminars provide a professional arena for the contractor, architect, and building officials to finally understand the "other side". This is a very important step in the right direction and the FRSA Educational Foundation is proud to be a part of this relationship improvement.
You can support the Foundation on many levels of membership contributions: Founding Members ($5,000) - this membership includes several special mentions at the convention and trade show and the Roofing Florida magazine. Free registration for continuing education programs, excludes convention. Charter Members ($1,000) - receive honorable mentions and offers 7.0 hours of continuing education registration fees during the contribution year. Patron Members ($500) - honorable mentions. Annual memberships: Platinum Membership ($250), Gold Membership ($150), Silver Membership ($100), and Membership ($50).
