EPA requires contractors performing work that disturbs lead-based paint, to include renovations, repairs, alterations, painting including window and door replacements, sheetrock, floor repair, tile, all exterior work, siding, soffits, etc., be licensed. All contractors working on all pre-1978 housing/child-occupied facilities shall have lead certification training. Included are maintenance, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, carpentry, general, building, residential and other trades disturbing lead based paint in any manner whatsoever. There are severe fines ($37,500 per offense, per day) for failure to be licensed.
8-Hour Training: The EPA requires an eight (8) hour pass/fail course. A photograph is also required for licensure and is taken at class. All information is forwarded to EPA. Licenses are normally generated within a few days. All license fees are included.
